Still learning

We knew getting to Liverpool was either going to be three or four train changes so I was mentally prepared to have a freak-out at some point, for some reason the hubby was not. It’s like he’s never met me.

Train one, we found seats no problem. We got luggage in the bag spot and were feeling very accomplished with knowing how to train around.

Train two is where we found out we were still learning. The platform that the train was scheduled to leave from on our phone said differently than on the reader board so we ran underneath the station and got to that platform only find it had changed on the board again to the platform we had just been at. Back again. About ten minutes later the train showed up on time and we jumped on. This train was packed with people. We had gotten on near the front and found ourselves walking through each car to find a seat, no luck. We got to the last carriage and found ourselves in the last compartment where there were a couple of younger men already standing on one side of the doors, so we took the opposite with intention of trying to get a seat when people left the train. They were good intentions but only a few people got off the train and several more people got on. We ended up with another couple of men in that small compartment all standing together. Then a queue of people between us all to come and see the man with the trolley of food. Still through more stops without people getting off the train and more getting on. We ended up standing the entire hour and a half of this leg of the journey. We heard many different UK accents, and understood very little of what was said.

The final train. We had minutes to run through the massive hub of a train station we found ourselves in to get to the next train. Insert freak-out. There was an alternate route if we didn’t make it but thankfully we did. It was a much more comfortable ride to Liverpool from then on. In total our train trip this day was just about four hours from Bath to Liverpool. The Lime Street station in Liverpool is massive. We disembarked ready to find our hotel which ended up being where we could see it from the doorway of the station, very convenient.

Checked in, and unpacked for the few days we’d be here, we went out to search for dinner. We made our way to Liverpool One. I could not believe how big this place is. Dinner eaten with a sticky toffee pudding rounding it out, recommended by the waitress, delicious btw. We found our way into a Liverpool FC store and a very important jersey, or kit as they call it here, was purchased. Back to the hotel and called the children as the sun was setting and they told us how weird it was because it was just noon there. Then rest which was definitely needed.
