Not ready to leave Edinburgh but plans were made that could not be unmade

The day started early with a lovey sausage roll, which I really enjoyed having for breakfast the last few days, and a dirty chai latte. I wanted to get in the last couple of things on my list to see, that we could walk to, before we left.

If you have kept up with this far along you may have an idea about what I am about to say involving our train travel. The train trip did not go as planned...again. The night before this last train trip of our journey, the hubby went on the website to decide on which train to take and then cross referenced that with the train company that it would be with so that we could reserve seats and make sure we had them for this four-ish hour trip to London. Totally worked and there was no worries. The platform was not named until fifteen minutes before it was supposed to leave but no big deal, we had assigned seats!

The trip started normally we made it two and a half hours before the train started slowing down and finally stopped. Hubby and I looked around and realized that this was not a station and we were in the middle of nowhere. We had been watching a movie and occasionally looking out at the scenery.

Turns out something nearer to London had happened to the switches and “we hope it will be fixed soon.” Waiting, waiting, waiting, with no movement. Next announcement they fixed the switch problem but now we were seventh in the queue of trains that had to stop for the switch problem. An hour and a half later we started off again. Made it to Kings Cross station where we had to switch to a Tube line to get to our hotel.

Plenty of people left with us in the same direction but slowly the amount of people that were carrying luggage was getting to just be the two of us. We emerged from Victoria station and quickly ducked inside the nearest McDonald's so we could get our bearings and directions to the hotel. We had planned on walking but that was starting to feel like a bad idea. The Tube had an announcement that reminded people to keep hold of their belongings because there are pick-pocketing schemes happening around the station.

I hailed down a taxi, very proud of myself. It took seven minutes in the cab and $10.30 but it was worth it. We walked up to our chosen hotel and quickly began to realize that this was not exactly our style. The desk lady was nice enough, she did make us prove who we were with several ID's before she accepted the booking. She gave us the top floor, three, that's nice. We took the lift and headed down the corridor after turning at least three times into new hallways we found it. How cute. The last room on the floor, gabled ceilings, and a step in the middle of the floor-I have already missed it once. The kind of place you might hide the hunchback of Notre Dame. Isn’t that precious, insert extreme sarcasm. Obviously it’s where you hide your more beautiful stepsister.

We're going to love it. It really is only for a few days. On the bright side we found a great, tiny, Italian-eatery place that we both really enjoyed and the price was not crazy.

Now to rest for the next three packed days.
